"I guess with any creative medium finding where you fit in, your likes and dislikes and genuinely believing in your craft is a long road."
- Krystal Neuvill
Meet Krystal Neuvill. A twenty-one year old photographer and videographer from London who blesses us with dreamy, angelic imagery. We asked her a few questions about her work...
When were you first attracted to photography? And what was it about the medium that captured your imagination?
I’ve been attracted to photography for such a long while now. In fact I first started out in styling and found that I was always more interested in what the photographer was doing on set, so from that realisation that lead me to the route of photography.
Can you tell us a bit about the concepts and themes in your work?
I guess that’s still something I’m figuring out and constantly exploring but there is an ongoing theme of elegance that I always try to input throughout my work.
Your work captures a certain lightness, feminine beauty and romanticism. Is this intended? And if so, what are the ideas behind this?
Thank you that’s very sweet! This is exactly what I intend to portray through my work. As I previously mentioned, I love the idea of capturing that air of elegance in my photos, showcasing a women’s soft and feminine nature whilst all the meanwhile being strong and powerful.
What difficulties have you had in your journey so far as a photographer?
The journey has been (and still is) a tough one. I guess with any creative medium finding where you fit in, your likes and dislikes and genuinely believing in your craft is a long road. It can also be hard with the constant influence of social media knocking at our doors; we can get so easily caught up in comparing ourselves and our achievements to those around us.
If you had your camera and a ticket to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I love countries with deep-rooted history that are rich with culture and have high spirits. The Caribbean is definitely always calling to me. I’ve wanted to get out and photograph the beautiful people of Jamaica for a really long time. There are also so many amazing countries in Africa that I need to touch.
Last song listened to?
Claude Debussy - Claire de Lune (I’m a big classical music fan)
Your aspirations for the future?
To travel, keep creating and use my photography to have a positive impact on those around me.
Something you love about humans?
We are constantly evolving and discovering new ways to connect with one another.
Finally, any messages or words of wisdom for the people reading this?
Success is not instantaneous, if you are dedicated and put the time, energy, hard work and effort in, you will reap the benefits of this. Secondly, don’t be discouraged by others and their success, remember they have worked hard to get to where they are at! Lastly it doesn’t have to be a competition; we should all be coming together to inspire and create with one another.
